Nowak, the retired director of Milwaukee County’s Wehr Nature Center, is the East Troy, Wisconsin, author of “Birdscaping in the Midwest: A Guide to Gardening With Native Plants to Attract Birds.” Nowak’s readers learn how to make outstanding habitats with native plants, creating cover, food and nesting sites for feathered friends in states ranging from Missouri to Wisconsin. Serving as Wehr Nature Center director for eighteen years, Nowak is still active in the organization Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes. She is also a board member of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology. Her “Birdscaping in the Midwest” – bursting with beautiful, full-color bird and plant photographs and helpful plans and tables – also offers gardening tips for bird watchers in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa and Indiana. Nine different habitat gardens are highlighted. |
