Workshop Presenter, Saturday, Oct. 4th, High School English Hall
"The Story Only You Can Tell (Writing Your Memoirs)"

The "Poet Laureate of Rockdale, Wisconsin," Lehman is the founder and original publisher of "Rosebud," a national magazine featuring world-class poetry, short stories and illustration. Lehman is the biographer of Lorine Niedecker, who was compared by William Carlos Williams to Emily Dickinson. Lehman is also a gifted poet all on his own. Lehman, the poetry editor of the Wisconsin Academy Review, is the author of “Shorts: 101 Brief Poems of Wonder and Surprise” and his poetry has been described by critic Louis Jenkins as showing the “marvelous possibilities of the prose poem: something of Midwestern American prose, something of the haiku, humor and high seriousness, all in the space of five or six sentences.” His book “America’s Greatest Unknown Poet: Lorine Niedecker” has helped celebrate the rural Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, poet that survived obscurity and river flooding and economic hardship to create some of the most admired poems of 20th Century America. As a writing teacher, Lehman has also published “The 3 in 1 Writing Book.” He has taught seminars in poetry, autobiography, and creative non-fiction throughout the nation. His other books of poetry include “Dogs Dream of Running” and “Shrine of the Tooth Fairy.” His fiction (published under the name Jack Lehman) includes “Take” “Hide” and “Find.”  A Chicago native, Lehman lives with his wife, Talia Schorr and their four dogs in the smallest incorporated village in Wisconsin.
