"Stories from the Land"
The Badger state’s premiere chronicler of all things rural, Apps has written more than 25 books, including volumes about Wisconsin’s farms, breweries, circus families, and one-room schools. “In a Pickle: A Family Farm Story” is his recently published novel. Apps, born and raised on a Wisconsin farm, is professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His other books include “Living a Country Year,” “County Ways and Country Days,” “Every Farm Tells a Story,” “When Chores Were Done,” “One-Room Schools,” “Breweries of Wisconsin,” and “Ringlingville USA.” He is a former publications director for the UW-Extension, an acquisitions editor for the McGraw-Hill Company, and the editor of a national professional journal. Named one of the Badger state's “notable authors” in 2007 by the Wisconsin Library Association, Apps has won awards for his writing from the American Library Association, the Robert E. Gard Foundation, the Wisconsin Council for Writers, and the Upper Midwest Booksellers.
